Day-to-Day Lives Of CCHS Students
There is a stark rate of students being quarantined at Calloway County High School and each day it seems that classes get smaller and smaller. While the focus tends to be on students that are already at school, not many people are paying attention to the students being quarantined at home. Students are keeping up with coursework while potentially being sick or having to stay home for a couple weeks.
Molly Horton is a senior at Calloway County High School who was quarantined. When asked about her current schedule, Molly said, “I’ve been getting to enjoy more hobbies, and I’ve been productive in other parts of my life besides school and work.” Molly came down with covid, and shared her reaction, “I actually got covid and it was upsetting that I had to be completely by myself the whole time, and that I would cause others to be quarantined. Luckily, the school year has just started so things aren’t too difficult right now. After having covid, it’s no joke and isolation remains a challenge.”
Rheagan Jones is also a senior who must deal with the effects of being quarantined. Rheagan’s schedule consists of waking up in the morning, doing chores, and then working on her school assignments. Rheagan’s reaction to being quarantined was tame, “I wasn’t really surprised to get quarantined. A lot of kids in all my classes have been getting called out for it.” Regarding motivation, Rheagan shared her struggles, stating, “It’s not too bad keeping up with the work, but finding the motivation to actually do it is another story.”
Students across Calloway County are persevering through hardships that are no fault of their own. According to the CDC, the future looks grim as more cases of the Delta variant appearing. Molly Horton and Rheagan Jones shared their hopes for the pandemic. Molly remained optimistic, declaring, “Getting back to more freedom and feeling safe without having to take extra precautions would make things a whole lot simpler!” Rheagan doesn’t have any hopes regarding the pandemic, expressing, “I can’t really describe any hopes I have regarding the pandemic. It’s constantly changing as new strands of the virus come out and we learn more about them.” Even as students are dealing with the effects of being quarantined, one thing remains clear: How many more students are going to be quarantined before any action is taken?
