NYC Wishing Wall
2022-The year of the tiger. The year of strength, bravery, and, hopefully, the year that everything gets back to normal. After the insanity of 2020 and 2021, it remains unclear whether people are ready for it.
A perfect start to this upcoming “normal” year is the Times Square ball drop. Times Square NYC tweeted on November 6th,“This beloved NYC holiday celebration is open to all with proof of full-vaccination and valid photo ID.” With over 70% of our population vaccinated (according to www.cbsnews.com), many are predicting “pre-pandemic crowds.” With performances from Billy Porter to Jimmie Allen, this year is sure to have a great sendoff! However, the percentage of the population who cannot get vaccinated due to medical concerns will be asked to have proof of a negative COVID test. The people who are not vaccinated are asked to watch from home. What is the fun in that?
The last couple of years have been hard for many, especially during the holidays. New York's streets on the night of December 31st 2020, were empty, which had never happened before.
Every New Year's Eve during the Dick Clark Rockin’ New Year's Eve show the streets of New York get covered in 3,000 pounds of confetti after the ball drops. That confetti is made up of people's wishes and hopes for the new year. After the huge celebration, 294 workers work together to clean the streets which are expected to have 50 tons of trash, according to untappedcities.com, It usually takes 12-16 hours to clean. Most of the confetti gets hung up on what is called the “NYC Wishing Wall.” People can visit Timessquareny.com to share and have wishes to fly through the streets of New York!
