Betty White’s Passing
The news of Betty White’s abrupt passing devastated millions across the globe on New Year's Eve, 2021. White suffered from a cerebrovascular accident that caused tissue damage after a stroke several days before her passing. Betty White, affectionately called America’s Grandma, has undoubtedly changed the world of television and established the idea of a “household name.”
Her Legacy
Betty Marion White had an exciting life filled with many dazzling accomplishments. Beginning her career in show business, White worked on radio shows in the 40s and began as a “girl Friday” on Hollywood on television. She later became the host of the show and cofounded Brandy Productions to begin working on her own projects. Her best-known work was through the gullible personality of Rose in The Golden Girls (1985). The icon also appeared as Sue Ann Nivens in The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970) and as herself in Life with Elizabeth (1952). According to USWeekly.Com, these roles earned White a spot in the Television Hall of Fame. White accomplished goals outside of showbusiness as well. Besides being a devout Christian and animal activist, the OG golden girl was the honorary mayor of Hollywood, California in 1955. When asked what she admired about White, teacher Mrs. Parrish shared her admiration for Betty White’s quick wit. Parrish quoted, "She was able to come up with a witty response spur of the moment. It really showed how intelligent she was.”
Final Words
Carrol Burnett, a close friend of Betty’s assistant, informed Vicki Laurence of White’s last words which she told US Weekly. Her final sentiment was one word, “Allen.” Allen Ludden, White’s most recent husband (married from 1963-1981) passed at age 72 of stomach cancer. The pair met when White was a celebrity on Proposal in 1961. White had husbands prior to Ludden but told interviewers that she would not remarry after Ludden's passing. “When you’ve had the best,” White remarked, "who needs the rest?”
Celebration Of Life
Betty’s agent, Jeff Witjas, explained that the funeral is to be private as White wished. Despite the intimate ceremony, supportive fans can look back at White’s life in “Betty White: 100 Years Young-A Birthday Celebration.” The film will feature Ryan Reynolds as well as other past costars who will reflect on their relationship with White. Witjas told US Magazine that fans hoping to honor the “Queen of TV” should donate to the charities this legend felt passionate about: The Los Angeles Zoo, Tree People, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Wildlife Learning Center. There is no doubt White impacted the world of showbusiness while she was here, but even more impactful is the way her legacy continues to inspire the world while she is not.
