One of the most controversial events was one with little coverage, though, and the most prominent contender may have been the reasoning behind the scrap of break-dancing as an Olympic sport for future dancers.
The contender in question, Rachel Gunn (ray gun) from Australia, became an overnight sensation after her shocking showcase of moves. Gunn’s scores and performance quickly flooded many social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and X. Out of many memorable ‘scandals’ to cross social media in 2024, the Paris Olympics breakdancing contender will be a reminder to everyone on how Olympic sports can vary in successfulness and seriousness through the years.
