Summer Camp Prepares Academic Team for Season
It’s easy to say things have had their fair share of changes during the last two years here at Calloway. Aside from the obvious mandate to wear masks, some faculty have had to adjust to an entirely new set of… well, everything. New rooms, new schedule, new curriculum, even the newest (and by far the worst, according to several teachers) shortage of planning periods. One teacher in particular—Mrs. Kimberly The CCHS Academic Team had the privilege of hosting a three-day camp over the summer to begin the competition season for both returning and rising competitors. The camp allowed new members to meet and connect with their team captains in a variety of games, competitions, and team-building activities.
Head Coach Erica Gray was very excited to host the minicamp this year and felt it was especially important to form bounds within the team before the season began. “With this being the third school year affected by COVID, we needed all students and coaches to have an opportunity to meet our rising freshmen as well as other students who may have competed virtually last year,” Gray comments.
Jayden Morris, a senior varsity member, says that it was “...fun getting to bond with friends and getting to know everyone better.” Addi Pervine, a freshman Junior Varsity member, comments that her experience was “very enjoyable,” and that she was “excited to meet others on the team.”
Following a tradition of excellence, the Calloway County High School Academic Team hopes to bring home champion titles once again in the 2021-2022 season. To help support their endeavors, a new booster club will supplement the team starting this year. The booster club consists of parents of team members, who will conduct fundraising efforts throughout the year to aid in various travel and competition fees.
