Student Life
One of the most interesting things about Calloway County High School is that so many students attend, and while they do the same activities and hear the same information each school day together, they all have separate lives and interests. Every student has different hobbies, different lifestyles, different cultures, and this is what makes every student unique. Each student lives a different life inside and outside of school, and when asked about their preferences and extracurriculars, here is what some had to say.
While speaking with Dylan Britt, a freshman, he said his favorite class at CCHS is P.E, as he likes the physical activity involved. His favorite part of the school day is going to lunch and eating with his friends, a communal time as opposed to the stress of class. In line with these, his favorite hobby outside of school is playing video games, mostly Dark Souls, he said.
Emma Grooms, a sophomore, was also asked about her day, and she said she enjoys playing basketball most of all. Her favorite class at CCHS is marketing because she sees her friends in that class, and her favorite part of the day is basketball practice right after the school day ends. Her favorite part of her school day in general is seeing her friends.
Another student here, Jese Solis, a junior, said her favorite class at CCHS is Money Skills. She stated it teaches important life skills along with how to control your money so you can live debt free in the future. She mentioned that her favorite part of the school day is walking around the school halls with her friends while chatting. “It is a mental break before classes start,” she described. Some of her hobbies include drawing and cooking. In fact, a few dishes she likes to cook currently are chili verde and spaghetti. She mentioned she also used to do archery as another hobby.
Finally, while speaking with Anna Cooksey, a senior, she said her favorite class is culinary. She loves going into the chef's classroom and just cooking and said it is one of her favorite hobbies even outside of school. Her favorite part of the school day is going to into classes she loves and speaking with her friends. She enjoys spending time with friends outside of school and just having fun with them. Some of her hobbies include drawing, cooking, and playing video games, and according to her, she likes to cook desserts the most.
All of these student’s lives include different hobbies, classes, and various aspects that make them different. They each have their own ways of enjoying the day, in and out of school. Students’ lives are unique in the way they live them, but they each have one thing in common: they are Lakers. Calloway County High School gives each student opportunities to find and express themselves even if it is not through academics. It really is a great day to be Laker at CCHS with all these opportunities.
