Breaking News
Flags around the country are being flown at half mast in the wake of a multi-state tragedy. On the night of December 10, 2021, multiple EMF level 4 and 5 tornadoes traveled over 200 miles and killed over 100 in the states of Kentucky, Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, and Indiana.
What You Need To Know
As of five pm on December 11, over 50 lives have been lost in the commonwealth and that number is quickly rising.
In Graves County, many are trapped inside the MCP candle factory and are unable to be rescued at this time due to the presence of vats of dangerous corrosive chemicals blocking entry. At least 40 casualties have already been recorded and many more are expected, but rescuers are working tirelessly to clear the way to reach those inside. The courthouse and jail alongside many businesses and homes were also destroyed in the event.

Governor Andy Beshear addressed the state through tears, having traveled straight to Mayfield after the storms lessened overnight. He filed to declare a state of emergency, and the request was approved immediately by President Biden. This request, which was granted by Biden for many states, allows FEMA support to already be on the ground less than 12 hours after the event. In a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Biden promised that more aid would be available to all affected states should they request it.
What To Expect And What To Do
Many in Calloway and Marshall have already regained power and those who have not are expected to in less than 24 hours. Keep in mind, however, that power circuits are vulnerable to overload at this time. Conserve as much power as possible until a more concrete connection is established.
As many have likely seen on Facebook, pets have gone missing all over the impacted areas. Stay on the lookout for any roaming animals and check shared posts to be up to date on people who may be looking for their friends.
Donation efforts at Calloway County High School have been organized by Coach Champion for items such as toiletries, bottled waters, clothing, and nonperishable food. The touchdown club trailer is open at the high school to accept these donations.
Prayers go out to all who are impacted by this tragedy. It is extremely important to remember that now, more than ever, we are a community. The citizens of Western Kentucky are able to overcome any hardship, face any challenge, and rise to any occasion as long as we stand together.
As our state motto declares, “United we stand, divided we fall.” Kentuckians, stand together as a united front to help your friends and neighbors at this time. We will all rebuild together.
