Smiths Section V48- Issue 1

Faculty/Staff Shoutout

For the first issue of The Laker Review for the 2023-2024 school year, Mr. Smith is giving a grand shoutout to two of our faculty members here at Calloway County High School, Ms. Lisa Hayes and Ms. Erica Gray.

Smith stated that, without Ms. Gray, we would not have a backbone to our science department here at CCHS. Along with being committed to her department, Gray is serious about the CCHS Academic Team, which is the best in Western Kentucky; she also successfully helped eleven students out of eleven students pass the AP Chemistry Exam last school year (2022/2023).  Mrs. Gray truly puts everything she has into teaching her craft.

Ms. Lisa Hays has also put major effort and time into her department, the Family Resource Youth Services Center (F.R.Y.S.C.), or as we call it here at CCHS, the Harbor. Hays organizes and facilitates the gathering of resources for students at Calloway County High School, whether it be food, clothing, school supplies, jobs, or personal hygiene. Hays is of great help and very appreciated by the students who have benefited from her hard work. She is truly a person always looking for ways to assist anyone and everyone who may be in need.

Student Participation and Encouragement

To promote student involvement, Smith “preached heavily” last year to students and staff about being an active member in groups and clubs here at CCHS. Last year saw a record number of students involved in clubs, proving that there was success behind Smith's efforts. Mr. Smith stands behind the idea that, if you keep encouraging involvement, keep the team aspect alive, and keep pushing to succeed, you will be involved.

Smith states, “If a student involves themselves into a school club or activity, that student will no longer feel that coming to school is a chore. They will have something to look forward to other than the constant, “How much homework am I going to get today?”
