FBLA Takes on Orlando at NFLC
Our CCHS FBLA club recently attended the NFLC (National Fall Leadership Conference) in Orlando, Florida. This trip included 40 students along with 7 chaperones. These participants left school around 2:30, November 16th, and headed to Nashville to fly to Orlando airport. The NFLC conference is, according to Mr. Thomas, “An opportunity for FBLA Middle School and FBLA High School members to develop both personally and professionally by participating in motivational general sessions, professional development workshops, and networking sessions with like-minded students from around the country.”
There are two conferences, one being in Orlando, the other being in Colorado. Students attend conferences, such as the NFLC, to be around other FBLA members to further advance their knowledge in FBLA and other business categories.
Although the main purpose of this trip was to attend the NFLC, they also received a “behind the scenes” tour of Universal Studios, as well as spent recreational time enjoying the park and its rides. Any school can attend this conference, as the only requirement is to have an FBLA club at your school.
According to FBLA member Bo Stom, “This trip was a great experience and very helpful.” Stom also said that this trip was helpful to him because it “allowed me to network with people from other states and improved my business skills.” Networking with other FBLA chapters and improving business skills are the main goals of trips such as this one. This year’s fall conference has proven to have achieved these goals.
Although the main things done on this trip were educational, this does not mean everything was about learning. Plenty of exciting activities took place, including games of basketball, and the previously mentioned trip to Universal Studios. Stom said his favorite part of the trip was, “Playing basketball at 10 p.m. against other students from eastern Kentucky with Gary Rogers, Mr. Thomas, and Andrew Adams.” While they might have lost terribly to these other students, they had much fun doing so.
This fall trip will not be the only opportunity for our FBLA students to improve. Another future opportunity to engage and learn, like this one, will take place in February 2023, in which FBLA will take a trip to Nashville to tour businesses and to experience real-world business scenarios. Additionally, FBLA students will participate in regionals, which will be held at Murray State University in March. There is also a trip to Louisville, in April, to participate in state competition. And finally, the national competition is being held in spring 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia.
