CCHS Esports Team
Not all sports require intense physical training. For example, some sports require much more mental training than others. An example of a mentally demanding sport can be found at CCHS. Esports, which is both challenging due to the nature of it and because of the individual demands of the participants, is one of the newest sports clubs in Calloway.
Calloway County High School has an outstanding Esports team with a great record. Although CCHS graduated some star seniors last year, our ESports team can still expect another phenomenal season full of victories. The first Esports competition will be held in February of 2023, but the exact day is yet to be determined. ESport season lasts from February through May of 2023, and individuals are expected to practice on their own.
Our Esports team plays League of Legends, a strategy game where a team of five rivals another team of five in an attempt to get to the other team's side to destroy their inhibitor to win. The team also plays Rocket League, a game of strategy and hand-eye coordination that is based on navigating a car and attempting to score in a game of soccer. Sponsor Caide Fraser is interested in adding a Madden team (A game that uses lots of strategy, to attempt to win, in a game of football). Adding Madden as another option is complicated, according to Fraser. Thus, Calloway County has yet to add it to the games. For example, of the many complications, having to connect to an X-Box or PlayStation server, that the school firewall does not allow, is the main problem. Therefore, for Madden to be added, the matches would have to be played at Murray State University.
Madden league is a new addition to the KHSAA Esports world. In this game it is a “quick play” game using four, five-minute quarters.
The Esports world is not as common as our other CCHS sports, but it is a very successful part of our school. Our students had a spectacular season last year finishing third in the state out of nearly seventy teams.
