Track Team Tribunals

The Calloway County Lakers kicked off their 2022 outdoor track season when they attended the McCracken Quad hosted by the McCracken County Mustangs. It was supposed to be a massive kickoff meet, but unfortunately McCracken and Calloway were the only teams there, so it quickly became a 1 on 1 with the two best teams around this area.

The McCracken County Mustangs have always been a top contender in the sport of track and field. The Lakers have recently come alive, securing some state championships and the sweep of the regional championships last season. The field events were up first, including shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, and high jump. The winner of the high jump event was Calloway County’s Price Aycock, posting a 5 foot 6-inch-high jump. Gabe Carson also came in third for the long jump, Luke Cullop came in second for discus and shot put, and Jesse Hutchens came in third for shot put.

Moving on the track events, the winners on the male side are as follows: Cohen Mccartney (400-meter dash), Daniel Puckett (1600-meter dash), Trystan Wright (110-meter hurdles), and the boys 4x200 meter relay team, which consisted of Gabe Carson, Tate Weatherly, Sam Chapman, and Trystan Wright . . . many winners for the boys with more top three finishes. The Lakers girls team winners are as follows: McKenzie Davis (100-meter dash), Reese Settle (800-meter run, 1600-meter run) Sayde Lowe (100-meter hurdles), and the 4x200 meter relay team, which consisted of Oliva Miles, McKenzie Love, McKenzie Davis, and Avery Poston. The girls also won the 4x400 meter relay which consisted of Oliva Miles, Brooklyn Smith, Olivia Anderson, and Sydney Naber. . . many wins for the girls. The field side held a few more, with Alec Rodgers in high jump, and Lydia Bell in shot put.

The Lakers lost the head-to-head point in comparison to the Mustangs but kept it competitive. The Lakers are sure to be a threat for this year's track and field season.
