The Laker Champion For Kids
This September's Laker Champion for Kids is our very own Maria Vincent here at Calloway County High School. She is the guidance secretary and the comforting face that you see before meeting with Mrs. Rydecki or Mrs. Neale.
According to her nominator, Nurse Erin Garland, "She goes above and beyond to ensure that each student is taken care of not only with their schedules and day to day issues, but she truly cares about each student and their well-being....Simply put, she champions alongside each student, staff member and person she comes in contact with. I can't think of a better person that embodies the word CHAMPION."
The Champion for Kids honor is awarded to a recognized individual of Laker staff that not only is always going above and beyond for kids, but is also always stepping up to help others. Someone we can be proud to call a Laker. When asked her thoughts on being chosen as the Laker Champion for Kids, Ms. Maria responded, “It was overwhelming; I had no idea. The month before we had all the staff together in the gym, and it was announced that it was Michelle Hanson. As I watched her, I was so overwhelmed for her, and I never thought at the time that I would get recognized. At the time, I thought it was so wonderful that staff was being recognized. I think it’s something good the district is doing.”
A veteran employee of the Calloway County school district, Ms. Vincent has many fond memories of her time serving this district. “I started at the preschool, worked there for thirteen years before moving here to the high school for the past 12. Students have come and I have got to watch them grow for four more years. To me, that’s the most amazing thing since I get to see them now all grown up. The best part is the nice feeling I get when they come up to me when they remember me (Ms. Maria!) from when they were three or four years old.”
