Hi-Q Champions

The Calloway County Hi-Q quiz tournament team recently competed in the quarterfinals and swept the competition to advance to the four-team semifinals. In their match against Mascoutah, senior Jayden Morris and juniors Cesar Villeda and Ellie Whisman scored a momentous 580 points against the opposing 130 points. The first episode featuring the Laker’s win against Woodlawn aired on Sunday, November 14, 2021, and can be viewed on the Scholastic Hi-Q section of the PBS website.  

This dynamic trio again returned to Illinois on November 29th to face off against the reigning champion Carbondale in the Semifinals. After a close match full of tension, the Lakers emerged victorious with a score of 445 points to 325 points, crushing the eleven-year win streak of the opposition.  

After a short break, the Lakers braced themselves to compete in the final round against Marion. After a sweeping success, the trio emerged victorious with an astounding score of 510 points to a mere 200. The thirtieth season of Scholastic HI-Q concluded with Calloway County as the grand champions, an amazing feat of dedication and prowess from the competitors.
