A Night to Remember

Kalie Nyer, Brooklyn Swatzell, Caleb Johnson, Sydney Lasley, Jackson Bell, Olivia Lane, Jasmine Zetterberg, and Addison Harpole all attended the homecoming dance. This picture was taken on Tyson Lafrance’s photobooth.

After our homecoming game against Fulton County, Calloway had our first sense of normalcy in the form of a homecoming dance featuring Tyson LaFrance as the DJ. LaFrance was chosen by Mrs. Lee because, “Tyson is a former student and I like to see our former students succeed with their businesses.” This was Lee’s first time hosting a dance and knew DJ prices had been a problem in the past and LaFrance was affordable. “He also had a photo booth available for rent which was a bonus for the kids to have the opportunity to take pictures with friends at the dance.” This event was held in the CCHS cafeteria. It was a dark room with the only lights coming from strobes mixed with the fog machines that created an amazing atmosphere. It featured a dance circle at times and was monitored by Mr. Love. The Student Council sold 380-400 tickets during school before the dance and 65-70 at the door of the dance. The dance was a good time for all who were involved and most people attending left around 11 o’clock.

When asked about why the dance was held this year, Mrs. Lee responded, “We have not been able to have a homecoming dance the past few years because of covid regulations.  Parents and students were both asking about a dance, and we were able to get approval to bring it back this year. Since Student Council and Beta have both hosted the dance in the past, I volunteered Student Council to host so we could provide that opportunity for our students.  It’s been a while since we have been able to have an event like this for all students and our organization really wanted to see this happen.” This was the first homecoming dance we’ve hosted since 2019 due to covid.

Cadwell Turner was very involved in the dance, keeping himself near the center of all action.  When asked his feelings about the dance, Turner replied, “It was a very fun night and I’m glad I got to experience this dance because I missed the one my freshman year and didn’t have the opportunity to go until this year.”
